‚Shining Places | Global Poem 2004‘

‚Shining Places | Global Poem 2004’
Light Installation, Artist Book
Edition: 3
© Susanne Kienbaum 2004

Dimensions: 280 x 60; 14 wooden boxes, 60x12x10 each
Materials: wood, polypropylene, acryl, neon light, black light

How is it possible to live in a world where at any time in a lot of places plenty of catastrophic scenarios could happen?

14 places where catastrophic scenarios can be anticipated from all over the world are choosen and highlighted in 5 of 14 boxes with black light. These 14 places are described in the book and background information is given.

In opposition to those ‘problematic’ places poems from all over the world were gathered especially from poets who are living or coming from those areas: the poems have been cut out of polypropylene and are mounted in layers upon the 9 of 14 boxes and are highlighted with warm neon light.

All poems are printed, correctly cited and translated in the artist book.

‚Intimacy N° 2‘

‚Intimacy N° 2’
Object-Audio-Installation
© Susanne Kienbaum 2003

Dimensions: archive boxes 15 x 50 x 35 cm, each, feather objects 160 x 35 x 35 cm, each;  overall dimensions variable
Materials: feathers, wooden archive boxes, tiles, water

Based on the interview material from 10 men and 10 women of my age on the topic ‘intimacy’ a couple of video works, installations and paper works were generated between 2002 and 2006, one of them being ‘Intimacy N° 2’.

The recipient of this installation can choose between two possible standpoints:  the standpoint of the archive boxes or the standpoint of the feather objects: near the archive boxes the intellectual reasoning on different aspects on intimacy can be heard through a seven-channel audio collage and near the feather objects an erotic whispering will be heard accompanied by the sensual touch of feathers touching ones cheek…

Dimensions: garden house 195 x 120 x 200 cm with feather objects à 160 x 35 x 35 cm each; door 200 x 40 x 90 cm; overall dimensions variable
Materials: feathers, tiles, wooden door frame, rubber gloves

Based on the interview material from 10 men and 10 women of my age on the topic ‘intimacy’ a couple of video works, installations and paper works were generated between 2002 and 2006, one of them being ‘Intimacy N° 1’:

The only access to the installation was through the ‘red door’. A wooden brigde led to the small garden house which could be entered with naked feet and where an installation of hanging feather objects was mounted. While the recipient was standing on the cold tiles the cheeks were softly touched by the feather objects out of them an erotic murmuring could be heard and listened to.
